Getting your videos out of TikTok
- 1
Request your data in the TikTok app
Profile → menu → Settings and privacy → Account → Download your data. Choose the JSON option, not TXT. TXT is a human-readable summary that throws away the structure this page needs.
- 2
Wait for it to be built
TikTok usually takes a few days rather than minutes, and the file appears under the “Download data” tab in the app rather than arriving by email. Check back there.
- 3
Drop the zip here
The page reads user_data_tiktok.json in your browser and counts every video link it finds, with the date each was posted.
- 4
Run the generated script
You get a .sh or .ps1 that fetches each video from TikTok on your own computer and stamps it with the real posting date. Nothing goes through this site.
What it actually changes
- A JSON full of links becomes actual files: TikTok's export lists every video you posted as a URL and a date. On its own that is unusable: there is no button that turns it into your videos. The script generated here walks the list one item at a time.
- Real posting dates, not the export date: Each entry carries the moment you posted it. That becomes the filename and the file's modified time, so years of posts sort correctly instead of landing under the day you asked for the export.
- It resumes: The script skips anything already downloaded, so a failure partway through costs you the remainder rather than the whole run.
- No login, no cookie, no password: You authenticate with TikTok, in TikTok, to request the export. This page never sees a credential, which is what keeps this site's “no login” promise literally true rather than nearly true.
- Your own posts, whatever their privacy setting: The export is issued to you by TikTok under your data-access rights. What is in it is what TikTok holds for your account; this page only makes it usable.
Frequently asked
Why can't the page download the videos for me?
The same reason it cannot for Snapchat: a browser will not let one website read a response from another unless that other site permits it, and TikTok's media hosts do not. The only way around it is to relay every file through a {brand} server, which would put a copy of your private videos on our machine. That is the exact trade this feature exists to avoid.
Do I need the JSON option, or will TXT work?
JSON. The TXT export is a flat human-readable summary: readable by you, but without the structure that pairs each link with its date, which is what makes the output worth having.
How long do the links last?
Longer than Snapchat's week, but not forever: they can stop working as the export ages. Run the script soon after it arrives rather than filing it away.
Can I use this on someone else's export?
No, and it would not help if you tried. The links in an export are issued for the account that requested it. This page is for getting your own media out, which is the only version of this that is anyone's right.
Where this fits
The rest of this site downloads public TikToks from a link. This page is the other half: the videos you posted yourself, arriving through the door TikTok is obliged to keep open.
