Can You Download Facebook Stories?

Updated 2026-10-03

Search for a Facebook Story downloader and you find dozens of tools promising one. Here is the honest version: a Story is delivered only inside a logged-in Facebook session and is gone after 24 hours, so there is nothing public for any tool to fetch. What genuinely can be saved, and what cannot, is below.

  1. 1
Check what kind of post it is

A Story sits in the Stories row at the top of Facebook and disappears after 24 hours. A video post stays on the person's profile or Page and keeps a normal link.

  2. 2
If it is a video post, copy its link

Tap ⋯ or Share on the post and choose Copy link. That link is everything a downloader needs.

  3. 3
    Paste it into VoomReel

A public Facebook video downloads normally, sound included. A Story link fetches nothing, because Facebook serves Stories only to logged-in accounts.

Why there is no working Story downloader

Every download starts from a link, and a Facebook Story has no public one. The address a story shows while you watch it — facebook.com/stories/… — opens only for a logged-in account the poster allows. To anyone else, and to any tool, Facebook answers with its login page instead of the Story.

VoomReel never signs in to Facebook, so it sees exactly what a logged-out visitor sees — and a Story is not on that list. This is not a policy choice that could be toggled; there is simply no public copy of the file to fetch.

A public Story is still not a public link

Facebook lets a Story be set to Public, and the label misleads. It changes who may see the Story inside Facebook — anyone, rather than friends only — but viewing still happens inside a logged-in session. Nothing is published to the open web, so the answer is the same for a Page's public Story as for a friend's one.

Contrast that with a video post set to Public, which Facebook serves to anyone holding the link, logged out included. That is the post VoomReel can download.

Saving your own Stories

Your own Stories are yours to keep, and Facebook has the tools for it. When you create a Story you can save it to your phone before or after posting. Afterwards, if Story archive is turned on, past Stories sit under Archive on your profile.

For a copy of your content in bulk, Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Export your information produces an export of your Facebook data. Both routes are official and neither involves handing your password to a third party.

What about screen recording?

Both iPhone and Android have a built-in screen recorder, and it captures whatever is on screen, Story included. That is a recording of your screen — interface, compression and all — not the file itself, and no tool is involved.

Whether you should is a different question from whether you can. Saving someone's disappearing post to re-share it without asking is a courtesy and rights problem, not a technical one. If you want a copy of someone's Story, asking them to send it is the route that works and the polite one besides.

What does download from Facebook

Public videos, Reels, Watch videos and videos in public groups all download by pasting their link into VoomReel — the Facebook video guide has the steps. An ended Facebook Live, once it is posted as a replay, is an ordinary video post and works the same way.

An expired Story is gone

Stories live for 24 hours. After that the page stops serving the Story for everyone, viewer and poster's audience alike, and there is nothing left for any tool to recover. If something in a Story matters, the time to save it is while it is up — your own one through the archive, someone else's by asking.

FAQ

Can I download someone else's Facebook Story?

No. A Story is served only inside a logged-in Facebook session, so there is no public link and nothing for a downloader to fetch. VoomReel never signs in, by design.

A site offers Story downloads if I log in with Facebook. Is that safe?

No. It would be using your account's access, which means your Facebook password ends up on a stranger's server — a straightforward way to lose the account, and against Facebook's terms.

Does it change anything if the Story is set to Public?

No. Public changes who can watch the Story inside Facebook, but watching still requires a logged-in account. It is never served on the open web.

Can I save my own Story?

Yes. Save it to your phone while creating it, find it later in your Story archive if that is enabled, or export your content in bulk through Export your information in Accounts Center.

The Story I wanted has expired. Can anything recover it?

No. Once the 24 hours pass, Facebook stops serving it to everyone, and there is no copy left to fetch.

So what can I download from Facebook?

Public video posts, Reels, Watch videos, videos in public groups, and ended Lives that were kept as replays — paste the link into VoomReel.
