Do I need a Niconico account?
No. VoomReel never logs in, which is also the limit: only videos that play for a logged-out visitor can be saved. Channel and premium-only content cannot.
What quality will I get?
Whatever the uploader provided, up to 1080p. Niconico hosts a lot of older material that was never above 360p or 480p, and no downloader can add detail that was never uploaded.
Do the comments come with it?
No, and that is worth knowing: the scrolling danmaku comments are drawn by Niconico's player on top of the video, not baked into the file. You get the clean video as the uploader submitted it.
Does a nico.ms link work?
Yes. The Share button produces a short nico.ms link, and it is resolved automatically.
Why does my Niconico link fail?
Most often the video is Japan-only. Niconico geo-locks a lot of its channel and official uploads (the ones with so… ids), and those cannot be fetched from outside Japan by anyone, including you in your own browser. Members-only and deleted videos fail too. VoomReel only sees what a logged-out visitor here sees.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in any modern browser, with no app to install.
How do I save a Niconico video as MP4?
Paste the link and tap Download. The file is already an MP4 with the audio inside, so there is nothing to convert or merge.
Why does it say the video is only available in Japan?
Because it is. Niconico geo-locks a large share of its channel and official uploads to Japan, typically the ones whose id starts with so. Open one from outside and Niconico itself refuses it, in your own browser, logged in or not. There is no public copy for any tool to fetch, and a downloader claiming otherwise is guessing.
What is the difference between an sm and an so id?
sm and nm are ordinary user uploads. so is usually a channel or official upload, and those are the ones most often locked to Japan or behind a membership.
Can I download a channel or premium video?
No. Those require a logged-in account to view at all, and VoomReel never signs in.
Can I download a Niconico live broadcast?
No. A live programme is not a posted video file. If it is published afterwards as a normal video, that page works.
Is there a watermark?
No. You get Niconico's own video and audio joined into one MP4.
Does the uploader know?
No. It is a plain request for the same file the player fetches.
Can I save just the audio as an MP3?
Yes. The ♪ MP3 button under each video saves the sound track as a 192 kbit/s MP3.
