Can You Download Snapchat Stories?
Updated 2026-09-19
Snapchat blurs the line between public and private more than most platforms, and that line is exactly what decides whether something can be downloaded. Here is where it falls.
- 1Check what kind of Snap it is
Spotlight and public profile Stories have web addresses. A Snap sent to you in chat does not.
- 2Copy its link
Share → Copy Link on the Snap itself, not on the profile, if you want that specific video.
- 3Paste it into VoomReel
Short snapchat.com/t/ links are resolved automatically.
What is genuinely public
Spotlight is Snapchat's public feed. Those videos have stable web addresses that open for anyone, signed in or not, and they download normally.
Public profile Stories — the ones on a creator's public page — are also reachable on the web. What you get is what the profile currently shows, which rotates as Stories expire.
What is not, and why no tool can change it
A Snap sent to you in chat has no public web address at all. It exists as a delivery to your account, fetched by your app with your credentials. There is no URL to paste, which is the practical reason no downloader can reach one — not a policy choice.
A private account's Story is the same: visible to approved followers through their session, not published to the web. VoomReel never signs in, so it sees only what a logged-out visitor sees.
Anything advertising downloads of private Snaps is asking for your Snapchat login. That is the only way it could work, and handing it over is how accounts get taken.
Stories expire, and that is real
A Story is up for 24 hours by default. Once it expires the page stops serving it, and there is nothing left to fetch. If you want to keep something, save it while it is up.
FAQ
Can I download a Snap someone sent me?
No. It has no public web address — there is nothing to paste, and nothing to fetch without your account.
Can I download a public profile's Story?
Yes, while it is still up. A profile link gives what that profile is currently showing.
Does Snapchat tell the person?
Snapchat notifies screenshots inside the app. Saving a public Spotlight video from the web is not an in-app action and is not a screenshot.
Why did my link work yesterday and not today?
Stories expire, usually after 24 hours. Once gone, no tool can recover one.
Does the short snapchat.com/t/ link work?
Yes, it is resolved for you.
Do I need the app?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
