Dailymotion Link Formats
Updated 2026-09-19
Dailymotion videos turn up under at least four different addresses depending on where you copied from. They are not all equivalent, and the one the Share button gives you is not the canonical one.
- 1Copy the link however you like
The Share button gives a dai.ly link; the address bar gives a dailymotion.com/video/ one; an embedded player gives an /embed/video/ one. All three work.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Short and embed forms are rewritten to the canonical address for you.
- 3Download
You get an MP4 with the audio already merged.
The forms you will meet
dailymotion.com/video/<id> — the canonical address, what the address bar shows on the video page.
dai.ly/<id> — Dailymotion's own short link, produced by the Share button. It carries the SAME id as the canonical URL, so it is a pure rename rather than a redirect to somewhere unknown.
dailymotion.com/embed/video/<id> — what you get by copying the address out of an embedded player on a news site or blog. Same id again.
geo.dailymotion.com/player.html?video=<id> — a player bootstrap used by some embeds. This one is not a video page at all; find the video on dailymotion.com and use that link.
Why the short form used to fail
For a long time only the canonical dailymotion.com/video/ form was accepted here, which meant the link Dailymotion's own Share button produces was rejected as unsupported. That was our bug, not yours, and it is fixed — dai.ly and /embed/video/ are both recognised and rewritten before anything else happens.
It is worth knowing why that class of bug is easy to ship: the canonical form is what a developer copies from the address bar while testing, and the short form is what an actual person copies from the app. They are not the same link, and only one of them gets tested unless you go looking.
What will not download
Private and password-protected videos need an account to view, so a logged-out request cannot reach them.
Some videos are restricted by country by the uploader or rights holder. If the page will not play for you in your own browser, there is no public file to fetch.
Playlists are pages of links rather than videos. Open the individual video you want and use its own address.
FAQ
Does a dai.ly link work?
Yes. It carries the same video id and is rewritten to the canonical address automatically.
Can I use a link copied from an embedded player?
Yes, if it is the /embed/video/ form. A geo.dailymotion.com player link is not a video page — find the video on dailymotion.com instead.
Can I download a whole playlist?
No. Playlists are lists of links; download the videos one at a time.
What quality do I get?
The best rendition Dailymotion offers for that video, chosen automatically.
Do I need a Dailymotion account?
No. VoomReel never signs in.
Why does a video that plays for me not download?
Check whether it plays logged OUT, in a private window. Anything needing an account is out of reach by design.
