How to Download Douyin Videos on PC
Updated 2026-09-25
Douyin and TikTok come from the same company and are not the same service. They have separate apps, separate catalogues and separate addresses, and a Douyin video cannot be reached through TikTok — which is the first thing to settle before anything else works.
- 1Copy the video link
From the address bar with the video open on douyin.com, or from the app's share menu. The v.douyin.com short links and the discover?modal_id= form both work.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Open the home page in another tab and paste the link into the box.
- 3Download
Click Download. The video arrives as an .mp4.
A Douyin link is not a TikTok link
There is no way to convert one into the other, and no tool can fetch a Douyin video through TikTok. If you have a douyin.com address, it has to be handled as Douyin.
The two platforms hold different content by different creators. A video that is on Douyin is frequently nowhere on TikTok at all.
The address forms you will meet
Douyin's desktop site uses douyin.com/video/<id> for videos and douyin.com/note/<id> for photo posts, and its feed pages open a post with a ?modal_id=<id> address that also works. The app's share button produces a short v.douyin.com link, which is resolved automatically.
Each of them carries the same post id. There is no need to convert between them by hand.
H.264 first, which is not the obvious choice
ByteDance serves the same video in more than one encoding, and the newer HEVC one compresses better — which makes automated tools reach for it. On TikTok, which runs on the same stack, that copy was measured in September 2026 at the same resolution and well under half the bitrate of the H.264 beside it. It is also the copy Windows refuses to play without a codec extension Microsoft charges for.
So the H.264 copy is asked for first: it plays everywhere and, at the same resolution, it looks better. That is the opposite of what a quality ranking by codec name would suggest.
Quality and watermarks
Whatever Douyin stores, up to 1080p for modern uploads. It is a vertical short-video format and there is no 4K copy to fetch.
The clean copy is a separate file from the watermarked one, so nothing is stripped or re-encoded. A watermark burned in before upload — common on reposts — is part of the video and stays.
Photo posts (图文)
A photo post downloads as its slides: every photo as a full-size JPEG, without the watermark, and every video clip in it as an MP4 — many photo posts mix the two. Paste its link like any other.
The music Douyin plays over the slides is not part of any of them, so it does not come with the download.
What will not download
Private accounts, deleted videos and anything requiring a login.
Videos Douyin will not serve outside China. This is more common here than on most platforms and is not something any tool can route around.
FAQ
Can I download a Douyin video through TikTok?
No. They are separate services with separate catalogues; a Douyin link has to be handled as Douyin.
Do v.douyin.com short links work?
Yes, and so does the discover?modal_id= form.
Can I download Douyin photo posts (图文)?
Yes. Every slide comes back: the photos as full-size JPEGs without the watermark, and any video clips in the post as MP4s.
Will there be a watermark?
No. The clean copy is a separate file. A watermark burned in before upload cannot be removed by anything.
Why will my Douyin video not download?
Most often it is not served outside China, or the account is private.
What quality will I get?
Whatever Douyin stores, up to 1080p. There is no 4K version of a vertical short video.
Why do some Douyin downloads not play on Windows?
That is the HEVC copy, which Windows needs a paid codec extension for. The H.264 copy is asked for first here.
Does it work on Windows and Mac?
Yes, in any browser, with nothing installed.
