Photos and Stories: they need a login
As of 2026 Instagram requires a logged-in session to access photo posts and Stories. Any tool that offers them either asks for your Instagram password (risky — it can get your account banned or stolen) or breaks often.
VoomReel deliberately does not ask for your login and does not handle Stories or photos, precisely so you never have to hand over your credentials.
How to stay safe
Never enter your Instagram password into a third-party downloader. If a site demands it, close the tab. Stick to tools that work with public content only.
What about Highlights?
Highlights are Stories a creator has pinned permanently to their profile, but they're still Stories under the hood — so the same login requirement applies, and VoomReel doesn't fetch them for the same reason it doesn't fetch regular Stories.
Why this changed
It wasn't always this way — Instagram's public embed page and a handful of unofficial API endpoints used to expose photo posts without requiring a login. Instagram closed all of those off, which is exactly why so many older "download Instagram photos" guides floating around online describe steps that no longer work. This isn't a gap VoomReel chose not to fill; it's a door Instagram itself shut.
What a site asking for your password is really doing
If a tool wants your Instagram login to "unlock" Stories or photos, it's using your own session to make the same request you could make yourself while logged in — the download isn't magic, it's borrowing your account's access. The risk is that your password is now sitting on a server you don't control, and Instagram's own automated-access detection can flag or lock accounts that get used this way through a third party.
A safer way to keep your own Stories and photos
For your own content, Instagram already lets you save Stories to your device before they expire (the Save option in the Story viewer) and download your data in bulk through Settings → Your Activity → Download Your Information — both official, both don't require trusting a third-party site with your password at all.

Only if it can be done without you sharing your login. We won't build a “paste your password” feature.
Why do other sites offer it?
They use your logged-in session, which risks your account. We chose not to.
Can I download my own content?
For your own posts, downloading within the Instagram app or via your account is the safe route.
Is a site asking for my password ever safe?

Do carousel posts with photos work?
A carousel's video slides download fine through VoomReel; the photo slides don't, for the same login reason as Stories.
Did Instagram photo downloads ever work without a login?
Yes, in the past, via endpoints Instagram has since closed. Guides describing that method are simply out of date now.
Is there any legitimate way to save someone else's Story?
Only with their cooperation — asking them to share it with you directly, since Instagram itself doesn't offer a public, no-login way to do it.
