How to Download Instagram Videos on iPhone
Updated 2026-08-06
Apple doesn't let apps save Instagram videos directly, but you don't need an app at all. With Safari and VoomReel you can save any public Instagram video to your Camera Roll in a few taps.
- 1Copy the video link
In Instagram, tap ⋯ on the post or Reel and choose “Copy link”.
- 2Open VoomReel in Safari
Paste the link into the box on the VoomReel home page and tap Download.
- 3Save to Photos
The video opens in a new tab. Tap the Share icon, then “Save Video” to add it to your Camera Roll.
Why does iPhone open the video instead of downloading?
iOS Safari handles downloads differently from Android. Instead of a silent download, the video opens so you can save it through the native Share sheet — this is the reliable way to get it into your Photos on an iPhone.
Do I need Shortcuts or an app?
No. Some guides tell you to install a Shortcut or a third-party app — you don't need either. VoomReel works entirely in Safari.
Does Chrome on iPhone work the same way?
Yes. Chrome, Firefox and every other iPhone browser are built on Apple's WebKit engine under the hood, so they all behave like Safari for downloads — the video opens, and you save it with the same Share sheet. There's no advantage to switching browsers on iOS.
What if the video won't open?
This almost always means the post is private, deleted, or from a removed account — VoomReel can only reach what Instagram itself serves publicly. Check that the link opens for you in a normal Safari tab first; if it does but VoomReel still fails, re-copy the link, since a shortened or edited URL occasionally drops the ID it needs.
Why the video comes straight from Instagram, not VoomReel's server
Instagram's own CDN allows a direct browser connection, so once VoomReel identifies the video, your iPhone downloads it straight from Instagram — VoomReel's server only handles the quick lookup, never the file itself. That's part of why the download starts almost instantly.
Adding VoomReel to your Home Screen
If you save Instagram videos often, Safari's Share menu has an "Add to Home Screen" option that puts a VoomReel icon on your iPhone — a one-tap shortcut to the paste box, with nothing installed from the App Store.
Saving several videos
There's no bulk-save from a profile — each save starts from a link you copy yourself. For a handful of videos, that's still quick: copy, paste, download, Share → Save Video, repeat.
FAQ
Does this work on iPad too?
Yes, the steps are identical in Safari on iPad.
Is my Instagram login needed?
No. VoomReel only works with public content and never asks you to log in.
Can I download Reels this way?
Yes — Reels and regular video posts both work.
Will the video be full quality?
Yes. The Share sheet saves the exact file VoomReel fetched from Instagram — nothing is re-compressed in the process.
Does it work on iOS 17 and older versions?
Yes. The Share-sheet save method has worked the same way across every recent iOS version.
Is it safe to use on a public WiFi network?
Yes — the connection to both VoomReel and Instagram is encrypted (HTTPS), and no login or personal data is ever transmitted.
