How to Download TikTok Videos in HD (1080p)
Updated 2026-10-02
Many TikTok downloads come out at 540p or 720p even when the video was posted in 1080p, because TikTok keeps its sharpest copy in a different codec. VoomReel offers both: the Download button gets the copy that plays everywhere, and an HD button gets the 1080p one.
- 1Copy the TikTok link
In the TikTok app, tap Share, then Copy link.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Open the TikTok downloader page and paste the link into the box.
- 3Tap HD 1080p
If TikTok keeps a sharper copy, an HD button appears under Download. Tap it for the 1080p file; Download gives the copy that plays everywhere.
Why most TikTok downloads are not 1080p
TikTok stores each video several times, in two codecs: H.264, which every device plays, and HEVC, which compresses better. On many videos the H.264 copies stop at 540p or 720p, and only the HEVC copy goes to 1080p. Of seven current videos measured in October 2026, five were like that.
So a downloader that always takes H.264 gives you 540p or 720p, and one that always takes HEVC sometimes gives you a worse file: where the two are the same resolution, the HEVC copy measured a third of the bitrate.
What the HD button gives you
The highest-resolution copy TikTok has for that video, usually 1080x1920, with its sound and without the watermark. It is offered only when it is genuinely sharper than the default file. When the two are the same resolution there is no button, because the default is already the better file.
Where the HD file plays
HEVC plays natively on iPhone and iPad, on Android phones and on Macs, and it goes into Photos or the Gallery like any other video.
Windows' own player needs the HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store, which cost a small amount, unless the PC came with them; VLC plays it free. If the file is going into an older editor or onto an older TV, take the default Download instead.
Why the HD file is often smaller
HEVC needs roughly half the data for the same picture, so a 1080p HEVC file can be smaller than a 540p H.264 one. On one measured video the default download was 4.6 MB at 576x1024, and the HD one 3.5 MB at 1080x1920.
When there is no HD button
Then TikTok has nothing sharper than the default copy. Either the video was uploaded at a lower resolution, or TikTok's H.264 copy already reaches 1080p. No tool can download a resolution TikTok does not store.
Blurry even in HD?
TikTok re-encodes every upload, and a video uploaded small or filmed in low light stays soft whichever copy you save. A screen recording of the app is worse still: it records your screen, then compresses it again.
FAQ
How do I download TikTok videos in 1080p?
Paste the link into VoomReel and tap the HD 1080p button under Download. It appears whenever TikTok keeps a 1080p copy sharper than the default file.
Why is my TikTok download only 540p or 720p?
On many videos TikTok keeps its 1080p copy in HEVC only, and the default download takes the H.264 copy that plays everywhere. The HD button gets the 1080p one.
Is the HD download watermark-free?
Yes. Both buttons fetch TikTok's clean copies; the watermarked one is never used.
Will the HD file play on Windows?
In VLC, yes. Windows' own player needs the paid HEVC Video Extensions, so on Windows the default Download is the safer choice.
Can I get 4K?
No. TikTok does not store 4K copies, so no tool can download one.
Does HD work for TikTok slideshows?
A slideshow has no video file: each photo comes at full size, and the sound as an MP3.
Is it free?
Yes. Both buttons are free, with no account and no app.
