How to Download TikTok Videos on PC

Updated 2026-10-02

TikTok's website has no download button, and the app's Save video option is not on desktop at all — nor would you want it, since it writes a watermark into the picture. Here is how to save one to a computer from the browser.

  1. 1
Copy the link from the address bar

Open the video on tiktok.com. The address in the bar is the link — no Share menu needed. Right-clicking the video and choosing Copy link address gives you the same thing.

  2. 2
    Paste it into VoomReel

Open the home page in another tab and paste the link into the box.

  3. 3
    Download

Click Download. The file lands in your Downloads folder as an .mp4.

Why the desktop site has no save option

TikTok's Share menu on the web offers copying a link and embedding, and stops there. The Save video item exists only inside the mobile apps, and what it writes is the watermarked copy — the one with the bouncing logo and the username across it.

So on a computer there is no built-in route at all, watermarked or otherwise. Anything that saves a TikTok on desktop is fetching the video file the player is already streaming.

Why not a browser extension

Extensions are the usual desktop answer and the one worth thinking twice about. A video-downloader extension asks to read and change data on every site you visit, which is the broadest permission Chrome grants — including your email, your bank and everything else open in that browser.

That permission is also durable. Extensions update themselves silently, and an extension that behaves today belongs to whoever owns it tomorrow; popular ones have been sold and quietly repurposed more than once.

A web page cannot do any of that. It sees the link you paste and nothing else, and closing the tab ends its access completely.

What you get on a computer

An .mp4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which Windows, macOS and Linux all play without installing anything, and which every editor accepts as-is.

There is a real choice hidden here that most tools make badly. TikTok serves the same video in two encodings: sometimes the HEVC one is the same resolution at less than half the bitrate, sometimes it is the only 1080p copy. Windows will not play HEVC without a codec extension Microsoft charges for, so the Download button asks for the H.264 copy first; when the HEVC copy is sharper, an HD button offers it too, and VLC plays it.

No watermark is added, and none needs removing — the clean copy is a separate file TikTok already serves.

Saving several videos

Paste them one at a time. There is no batch mode, and no limit on how many you do this way.

Rename as you go if you are collecting. TikTok filenames are numeric ids, and a folder of them is its own problem an hour later.

Windows, macOS, Linux and Chromebook

All the same, because none of the work happens on your machine. Any modern browser will do — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari — and nothing is installed.

On a Chromebook the file goes to the Downloads folder in the Files app, and can be moved to Google Drive from there.

If the download does not start

Check the video is public. A private or friends-only account has nothing a signed-out visitor can fetch, and VoomReel never signs in.

Check the link is to a post, not a profile. A Photo Mode slideshow works too: it has no video file behind it, so it comes back as its photos at full size, with the sound as an MP3.

If the browser blocked it, look for a download prompt in the address bar — some configurations ask before saving.

FAQ

Can I download TikTok videos on a PC without an app?

Yes. It runs in the browser; nothing is installed and no account is used.

Does it work on Windows 10 and 11?

Yes, in any modern browser. The file is H.264 MP4, which both play without extra codecs.

Does it work on a Mac or Chromebook?

Yes. Nothing runs on your machine, so the operating system does not matter.

Where does the file go?

Your browser's Downloads folder, unless you have set it to ask each time.

Is a browser extension faster?

Not meaningfully, and it costs far more: an extension asks to read and change data on every site you visit, and updates itself silently afterwards.

Will the video have a watermark?

No. The clean copy is a separate file TikTok serves; nothing is stripped or re-encoded.

Why will my download not play in Windows Media Player?

That is an HEVC file — the HD button's, or another tool's. Windows needs a paid codec extension for it; VLC plays it free, and VoomReel's Download button gives the H.264 copy, which plays natively.

Is there a limit?

No. It is free, with no account and no cap.
