How to Download Twitter/X Videos on PC
Updated 2026-09-20
Right-click an X video on your computer and the menu offers Copy video address. What it gives you starts with blob: — an address that only means anything inside the page that made it, and nothing at all once you paste it somewhere else. Copy the post link instead.
- 1Copy the post link, not the video address
Use the address bar on the post page, or the Share icon and Copy link. x.com and twitter.com addresses both work.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Open the home page in another tab and paste the link into the box.
- 3Download
Click Download. You get an .mp4 with sound.
What blob: means, and why it wastes your time
X's player assembles the video in the page from pieces it fetches as you watch, then hands the browser a reference to that assembled object. blob: is that reference. It is valid only inside the tab that created it and expires with the page.
So pasting it anywhere — another tab, a downloader, a chat window — produces nothing at all. The post URL is what actually identifies the video.
GIFs on X are not GIFs
If you save what X calls a GIF and get a silent .mp4, nothing went wrong. X converts every GIF to video on upload and has for years, because a video of the same animation is a fraction of the size.
That is why they are silent: the post genuinely contains no audio track. If you need an actual .gif, download the MP4 and convert it on your own machine rather than handing the file to a third-party site.
Age-restricted posts are not photo posts
X hides sensitive and age-restricted media from anyone who is not signed in, and the page it serves a logged-out visitor contains no video at all — which looks identical to a post that never had one.
They are worth telling apart, because the advice differs: a photo post has nothing to fetch, while an age-restricted one has a video that X is withholding from signed-out clients. VoomReel names which it is rather than guessing.
Quote tweets and replies
The video belongs to whichever post actually holds it. If you are looking at a quote tweet, the video may be in the post being quoted — open that one and copy its address.
In a thread, each post has its own address. Clicking the timestamp gives you the individual post rather than the thread.
What you get
An .mp4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, at whatever size X stores for that post. It plays on Windows, macOS and Linux without installing anything.
Nothing is re-encoded and no watermark is added. X re-encodes on upload like every platform, so what exists publicly is already not the uploader's original.
FAQ
Why does Copy video address not work on X?
It gives a blob: reference that only exists inside that page. Copy the post link from the address bar instead.
Do x.com and twitter.com links both work?
Yes. They are the same posts.
Why is my downloaded X GIF silent?
Because it was never a GIF. X converts GIFs to silent video on upload, so the post contains no audio.
Why does it say the post has no video when I can see one?
If you are signed in to X and the post is age-restricted, X hides the media from signed-out visitors. There is no public copy to fetch.
Do I need an X account?
No, and that is also the limit: only what a signed-out visitor can see.
Where does the file go?
Your browser's Downloads folder.
Does it work on Windows and Mac?
Yes, in any modern browser. Nothing runs on your machine.
