How to Download Facebook Videos on PC
Updated 2026-09-20
Unlike Instagram, Facebook's desktop site is the full product — it simply has no save option for video. Here is how to get one onto a computer, with no account and nothing installed.
- 1Copy the link
The address bar on the video's own page works. So does the three-dot menu and Copy link. facebook.com/watch/?v=, /posts/, /reel/, fb.watch and share/ links are all accepted.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Open the home page in another tab and paste the link into the box.
- 3Download
Click Download. The file lands in your Downloads folder as an .mp4.
Which link to copy on desktop
Facebook gives you several addresses for the same video and they are not equally useful. The one in the address bar while the video is playing on its own page is the reliable choice.
If you copied from a feed rather than the video's page, you may have the address of the post's author or the group instead. Click the video first so it opens on its own, then copy.
All the short forms work too — fb.watch and facebook.com/share/ links are resolved automatically — so the app's Copy link is fine if that is what you have.
Photos work as well
A public photo post returns the picture at the full size Facebook serves it, which is larger than the copy shown in your feed and considerably larger than a screenshot.
On a computer that difference is visible. A screenshot is limited to your screen and re-compressed by the screenshot itself; even on a large monitor it is a real step down.
For an album, open the individual photo first. Facebook gives every picture in an album its own address.
A video post is never served as a still
Worth stating, because it is how this could quietly go wrong. Every post carries a preview image, and for a video that image is the poster frame. Handing that over and calling it the photo would be a confidently wrong answer, so a post advertising a video is always treated as a video.
Why not an extension
A video-downloader extension asks to read and change data on every site you visit — the broadest permission your browser grants — and keeps it while updating itself silently afterwards. On a machine where you also do your banking and email, that is a large standing permission for a small convenience.
A web page sees the link you paste and nothing else, and closing the tab ends its access.
What will not download
Anything not public: friends-only posts, private groups, and anything behind a login. VoomReel never signs in, so it sees what a signed-out visitor sees.
Deleted posts. If the link opens a login wall in your own browser while signed out, no tool can do better.
