How to Download Pinterest Images and Idea Pins
Updated 2026-09-19
Most Pinterest guides only cover video pins. Plenty of what people actually want to keep is a still image, and Pinterest makes that awkward on a phone. Here is how both work.
- 1Copy the pin link
Open the pin and use Share → Copy link. Short pin.it/… links work, and so do country domains like pinterest.co.uk or pinterest.de.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Paste the link into the box on the home page.
- 3Download
An image pin returns the picture; a video pin returns an MP4. You do not have to say which it is.
Image pins come back at the stored size
What you save is the file Pinterest holds for that pin, not the thumbnail the grid shows you. That is usually considerably larger than what a long-press on the phone app would have given you.
It is still Pinterest's copy. Pinterest re-encodes uploads, so the pin is not necessarily the photographer's original — no tool can give you a file that was never published.
Idea Pins have several pages
An Idea Pin is a sequence rather than a single item. What comes back is what the pin exposes for the page your link points at, which may be fewer items than you see when swiping through it.
If you need a specific page, open that page and copy its own link where Pinterest offers one.
Pins that will not save
Secret boards and pins on private profiles need an account to view, so a logged-out request cannot reach them.
A pin whose image is hosted on someone else's site — a link pin — has no Pinterest-stored file behind it. Open the source site and save it there.
FAQ
Can I download a Pinterest image, not just video?
Yes. Image pins return the picture at the size Pinterest stores.
Does a pin.it short link work?
Yes, and so do regional domains like pinterest.co.uk.
Can I save a whole board at once?
No. Pins are saved one at a time.
Do I need a Pinterest account?
No. VoomReel never signs in.
Why is the image smaller than the original photo?
Pinterest re-encodes uploads. The stored pin is the best version that exists publicly.
Can I download from a secret board?
No — that needs your account, which VoomReel never uses.
