Instagram Reels to MP4

Updated 2026-10-01

An Instagram Reel is already an MP4 — the same H.264 video and AAC audio your phone records. So “converting” one is not a real step. What matters is getting the actual file, at full size, without it being re-encoded or stamped on the way.

  1. 1
    Copy the Reel link

Tap the three dots on the Reel, then Link → Copy link. In a browser, the address bar works. instagram.com/reel/... and /p/... links both work.

  2. 2
    Paste it into VoomReel

Open the home page and paste the link into the box.

  3. 3
    Download

Tap Download. You get an .mp4 at the size Instagram serves it.

Nothing is converted, and that is the point

Instagram serves Reels as H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4 container — already the most compatible combination there is. There is no format to change, so a tool that re-encodes one is only making it worse and slower.

The picture and sound you save are exactly what Instagram was playing you. Same resolution, same bitrate, same audio.

Usually, the file does not pass through us

This is unusual enough to be worth explaining. For most Reels, the download runs directly between your browser and Instagram's own CDN. The link is resolved on our side, and then your device fetches the video itself — as fast as your connection to Instagram allows, with no server in the middle to queue behind.

The exception is a Reel whose address Instagram serves without its sound. Downloading that as-is would give you a silent file, so it is fetched again with its audio track and the two are joined on our server as the file streams to you — copied, not re-encoded. Either way, nothing is kept afterwards.

What size you actually get

Whatever Instagram serves for that Reel, which is typically 1080x1920 for a modern upload. Instagram re-encodes on upload, so this is already not the creator's master file — but it is the best public copy in existence, and it is what you get.

Older Reels can be smaller, because Instagram's own limits were lower when they were posted. Nothing can recover detail that was compressed away years ago.

No watermark is added

Nothing is drawn onto the picture on the way through. If a Reel carries a TikTok watermark or a creator's own branding, that was burned in before it was uploaded and is part of the video itself.

A downloader that adds its own logo has to re-encode the video to do it. That is the clearest sign that a tool is re-compressing your file.

Reels, posts and carousels

A Reel link and an ordinary /p/ video post link both work, and behave the same way — the difference is how Instagram presents them, not how they are stored.

A carousel containing several videos gives you each one separately rather than a single joined file.

What will not download

Private accounts. If you would have to be an approved follower to see it, there is no public copy, and VoomReel never logs in.

Stories, which expire and are served only to signed-in viewers.

Deleted Reels, which are gone for everyone.

FAQ

Do Instagram Reels need converting to MP4?

No. A Reel is already H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4 container.

Will the quality drop?

No. Nothing is re-encoded — the file is exactly what Instagram serves.

What resolution do I get?

Usually 1080x1920 for a recent Reel, matching what Instagram stores.

Is a watermark added?

No. Nothing is written into the file. Any watermark you see was in the video before it was uploaded.

Does the video pass through your server?

Usually not: most Reels download directly from Instagram's CDN to your device. A Reel Instagram serves without its sound is joined with its audio on our server as it streams through, and nothing is kept.

Can I download from a private account?

No. Only content visible to a signed-out visitor can be fetched.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes. Tap Share, then Save to Files or Save Video.

Can I download Stories?

No. Stories are served only to signed-in viewers.
