How to Download Instagram Photos
Updated 2026-09-19
Instagram gives you no way to save a picture, so most people screenshot it — and a screenshot is cropped, compressed and stamped with your status bar. You can save the original file instead, at the size it was uploaded, straight from your browser.
- 1Copy the post link
Open the post, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Copy link. A link someone shared with you works the same way.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Open the VoomReel home page and paste the link into the box.
- 3Download
Every picture in the post appears. Save the one you want, or work through a carousel one by one.
You get the full-size file, not a thumbnail
The image you download is the one Instagram stores, not the scaled-down copy the app shows in a feed. On a recent post that means a file measured at 1440×1920 pixels — several hundred kilobytes of actual photo.
This is the difference that matters against a screenshot. A screenshot captures whatever your screen happened to be showing: fewer pixels, re-compressed, usually with interface elements baked in and the aspect ratio already cropped. The downloaded file has none of that.
Carousels give you every picture
A post with several photos is a carousel, and each slide is a separate image file. Paste the post link once and all of them are listed, so you do not have to swipe through and capture each one.
They come back in the order they were posted, at the same full size as a single-image post.
No account, and nothing installed
This runs in your browser. You never sign in to Instagram, which also sets the honest limit: only posts that are visible to someone who is not logged in can be saved.
Because nothing signs in, nothing touches your account — there is no session to hand over and nothing to revoke afterwards.
What still will not work
Private accounts are private. If a post is only visible to approved followers, it is not reachable without being one, and no downloader changes that.
Stories are not feed posts — they expire, and are out of scope here.
If you want your own photos back in bulk rather than one post at a time, ask Instagram for a data export instead. That gives you everything you ever uploaded, and VoomReel has a separate tool that repairs the capture dates an export strips out.
Is it legal to download someone's Instagram photo?
Saving a picture for your own reference is ordinarily fine. Republishing someone else's photo, or passing it off as yours, is not — the copyright belongs to whoever took it, regardless of how easy the file is to obtain.
If you intend to post it anywhere, ask the creator. That is a rule about the picture, not about the tool.
FAQ
Can I download Instagram photos without an account?
Yes, for any post that is publicly visible. Nothing signs in, so private accounts stay private.
Will I get the full resolution?
Yes — the stored file rather than a feed-sized preview. Measured at 1440×1920 on a recent post.
Can I download all the photos in a carousel?
Yes. Paste the post link once and every slide is listed separately.
Is it better than a screenshot?
Considerably. A screenshot is cropped to your screen, re-compressed, and often includes your status bar. The download is the original file.
Does this work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari or any browser. Tap Share, then Save to Files, or Add to Photos.
Can I download photos from a private account?
No. Those need to be visible without logging in, and a private account's posts are not.
Do you keep the photos I download?
No. The image is fetched by your own browser straight from Instagram's servers — it does not pass through VoomReel at all.
