How to Download Reddit Videos With Sound
Updated 2026-09-18
If you have ever saved a Reddit video and ended up with a silent clip, nothing went wrong on your end — that is simply how Reddit stores video. Here is what is actually happening, and how to get a file with the sound still in it.
- 1Copy the post link
Open the post and tap Share, then Copy link. Both the long reddit.com/r/…/comments/… address and the short reddit.com/r/…/s/… link the mobile app produces will work.
- 2Paste it into VoomReel
Open the VoomReel home page and paste the link into the box.
- 3Download
Tap Download. The two halves are fetched and joined for you, so what arrives is a single MP4 with audio.
Why Reddit videos come out silent
A Reddit video post is not one file. When something is uploaded to v.redd.it, Reddit stores the picture as one file and the sound as a completely separate one, then plays them together in the page. Nothing you can see tells you there are two.
A downloader that grabs "the video" picks up the picture-only file, because that is the one the address points at. It is a real, valid MP4 — it just has no audio track in it at all. That is why the clip plays fine and is completely silent, and why turning the volume up changes nothing.
Getting the sound back means fetching the second file and merging the two into one MP4. VoomReel does that step for you, which is the whole difference between a silent download and a usable one.
What quality can you expect?
Whatever the person who posted it uploaded, up to 1080p. Reddit re-encodes uploads when they are submitted, so each post has a ceiling fixed at that moment — plenty of popular posts are 480p or 720p, not 1080p.
No downloader can exceed that ceiling. If a tool advertises 4K Reddit downloads, it is describing something Reddit never stored.
Posts that will not download, and why
Private and quarantined communities need an account to view at all, so a logged-out request cannot reach them. VoomReel never signs in, which means it sees exactly what an anonymous visitor sees.
Plenty of Reddit posts are not hosted by Reddit either — a link post pointing at YouTube or Streamable is that site's video, not a Reddit one. Paste the destination link instead.
Image posts download too, as the picture itself rather than an MP4 — you get the file Reddit stores, not a screenshot of it.
Does this work on a phone?
Yes, on both iPhone and Android, in the browser you already have. On Android and desktop the file lands in your downloads; on iPhone, tap Share and then Save to Files to keep it.
There is no app to install for any of it, which also means nothing gets access to your Reddit account — because you never sign in.
FAQ
Why does my Reddit video have no sound?
Because Reddit keeps the picture and the audio in two separate files, and most downloaders only take the first one. The fix is to fetch both and merge them, which is what VoomReel does automatically.
Is downloading Reddit videos free?
Yes. No account, no sign-up and no limit on how many you save.
Do I need a Reddit account?
No, and that is also the limit: only posts that are visible without logging in can be downloaded.
Does it work with links from the Reddit app?
Yes. The app's Share button gives you a short reddit.com/r/…/s/… link, and that form works as well as the full permalink.
Can I download a video from a private subreddit?
No. Those need an account to view, and VoomReel never signs in to one.
What about photos and GIFs?
Both work. A post Reddit serves as video downloads as an MP4; an image post downloads as the picture itself, at the size Reddit stores it.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari or any other browser — tap Share then Save to Files to keep the MP4.
