How to Download Reddit Videos on iPhone
Updated 2026-09-19
iPhone makes this harder than it should be: the Reddit app has no save option for video, and Safari handles downloads differently from a desktop browser. Here is the route that works, and where the file actually goes.
- 1Copy the link in the Reddit app
Open the post, tap the share arrow and choose Copy link. You will get a reddit.com/r/…/s/… address — that short app form works.
- 2Open VoomReel in Safari and paste
Paste into the box and tap Download.
- 3Find it in Files, then move it to Photos
Safari saves downloads to the Files app under Downloads. Open it there, tap Share → Save Video to put it in your camera roll.
Why the file has sound
Reddit stores a v.redd.it post as two separate files — one picture, one audio — and the player combines them as you watch. Anything that grabs only the video file gives you a silent clip, which is why so many Reddit saves come out mute.
The two halves are fetched and joined before the file reaches you, so what lands on your phone is a single MP4 with audio already in it. Nothing to merge afterwards.
Where iPhone puts the download
Safari does not put downloads in Photos. They go to Files → Downloads (or iCloud Drive → Downloads if you have that enabled). This catches people out constantly — the download worked, it is just not where they looked.
From Files, Share → Save Video moves it into the camera roll. Videos only; an image post saves with Save Image.
Keep the tab in front while it downloads
iOS suspends background tabs aggressively to save battery, and a suspended tab stops a download that is still running. For a long video, leave the tab open and the screen on until it finishes.
FAQ
Do I need an app or a Shortcut?
No. It works in Safari, and in Chrome or Firefox on iOS too.
Where did my download go?
Files → Downloads. Use Share → Save Video from there to put it in Photos.
Does the share link from the Reddit app work?
Yes — the reddit.com/r/…/s/… form is recognised.
Why is the video silent when I save it another way?
Because Reddit keeps picture and sound as separate files and most tools take only the first.
Can I save an image post this way?
Yes. Image posts return the picture; use Save Image in the Files share sheet.
Does it work on Android?
Yes, and Android is simpler — downloads land in your Downloads folder and show up in the gallery.
