TikTok to MP4

Updated 2026-10-02

“TikTok to MP4” suggests a conversion step, and there is not one — a TikTok is already an MP4. The thing that actually decides what your file looks like is which of the copies TikTok holds you are handed, and most tools do not tell you.

  1. 1
    Copy the video link

Tap Share, then Copy link. The short vm.tiktok.com and vt.tiktok.com links the app produces work, as does the full address from a browser.

  2. 2
    Paste it into VoomReel

Open the home page and paste the link into the box.

  3. 3
    Download

Tap Download. You get an .mp4 with no watermark added.

A TikTok is already an MP4

TikTok serves its videos as MP4 files: H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio. The H.264 copy is the most widely supported combination there is — it opens on every phone, every computer, every TV and in every editor without a codec pack.

So there is nothing to convert, and a site that shows you a “converting” progress bar for a TikTok is showing you an animation. Real conversion would only make the file worse: re-encoding decodes every frame and compresses it again, and the second pass cannot recover what the first one discarded.

TikTok keeps more than one copy, and they are not equal

This is the part worth knowing, and it is invisible unless you inspect the file. TikTok serves the same video in more than one encoding, and on a video measured in September 2026 the two on offer were an H.264 rendition at about 4,200 kbps and an HEVC one at about 1,650 kbps — identical resolution, less than half the data. On other videos they differ in resolution instead: measured in October 2026, five of seven had H.264 only at 540p or 720p, while the HEVC copy reached 1080p.

HEVC is the newer codec and compresses better, which is why automated tools tend to pick it whatever it holds. At the same resolution and less than half the bitrate, it is the worse file; at a higher resolution, it is the sharper one.

It is also the copy that will not play in places you would expect. Windows refuses HEVC without a codec extension Microsoft charges for, and a good many video editors and older TVs refuse it outright; VLC plays it everywhere.

So VoomReel's Download button asks for the H.264 rendition first, and falls back to HEVC only when a video has nothing else. When the HEVC copy is a higher resolution, an HD button appears under it and fetches that one instead: your choice, with the trade-off on the button.

The watermark is a different file, not a removed one

TikTok publishes a watermarked copy of every video — the one with the bouncing logo and the username — and that is what its own Save video button gives you. Nothing strips it afterwards, because it does not have to: the clean copy is a separate file TikTok also serves.

So “without watermark” means picking the right one, not editing a video. That matters, because editing it out would mean re-encoding — the very thing that costs quality.

One caveat that catches people out. If the video was reposted, the uploader may have submitted something that already had a watermark burned into the picture. That is part of the video itself and no tool can remove it. Check a second video from a different account before concluding anything about a downloader.

What resolution you actually get

The Download button gives TikTok's best H.264 copy: 1080x1920 for some videos, and only 576x1024 or 720x1280 for others, where TikTok keeps its 1080p copy in HEVC alone. The HD button fetches that one. TikTok re-encodes everything on upload, so even the clean copy is not the creator's original.

Nobody can hand you a 4K TikTok. It is a vertical short-video format and TikTok does not store one, so a tool advertising it is describing a file that does not exist.

Photo-mode posts are not videos

TikTok's photo mode posts a set of still images with music over them. There is no video file behind one, so there is no MP4 to save — but the parts are there: paste the link and VoomReel returns each photo at full size and the sound as an MP3.

Worth separating from a genuine failure: a paid or serialised Short Drama episode is a real video that TikTok delivers differently, and that is a different message for a different reason.

What will not download

Private accounts and friends-only videos. VoomReel never signs in, so it sees what a signed-out visitor sees.

Deleted videos, and videos removed by moderation.

Region-restricted uploads, where TikTok will not serve the video to this part of the world at all.

FAQ

Do I need to convert a TikTok to MP4?

No. A TikTok is already H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4 container. Any tool showing a conversion step is not performing one.

Why do some TikTok downloads not play on Windows?

Because the file is the HEVC copy, which Windows' own player only plays with a codec extension Microsoft charges for; VLC plays it free. VoomReel's Download button gives the H.264 copy, and only the HD button gives HEVC.

Is the HEVC version better quality?

At the same resolution, no: measured on a live video it had less than half the bitrate. At a higher resolution — 1080p beside a 540p or 720p H.264 copy — it is the sharper file, which is what the HD button offers.

Will there be a watermark?

No. The clean copy is a separate file TikTok serves, and that is the one you get. A watermark burned in before upload is part of the video and cannot be removed.

What resolution will I get?

From the Download button, TikTok's best H.264 copy, often 540p or 720p. The HD button, when it appears, gets the 1080x1920 copy. TikTok has no 4K copy to fetch.

Do vm.tiktok.com links work?

Yes — that is what the app's Copy link button produces, and it is resolved automatically.

Can I download a photo-mode post as MP4?

Not as an MP4 — photo mode is a set of still images with a sound over them, and there is no video file behind it. Paste the link anyway: VoomReel returns each photo at full size and the sound as an MP3.

Does it work without the TikTok app?

Yes. It runs in a browser on any device, and no account is involved.
