A Video Downloader That Works on a Chromebook

Updated 2026-10-02

Most video downloaders are Windows or Mac programs, and a Chromebook runs neither. VoomReel runs in the browser, so on a Chromebook it works in Chrome like any other web page: paste a link, and the video saves to your Downloads folder.

  1. 1
    Copy the video's link

In Chrome, open the post on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X or another supported site and copy the address, or use the site's Share → Copy link.

  2. 2
    Paste it into VoomReel

Open voomreel.com in another tab and paste the link into the box.

  3. 3
    Download

Click Download. The MP4 goes to the Files app, under My files ▸ Downloads.

Why most downloaders do not work on a Chromebook

ChromeOS does not run Windows or Mac programs, so the usual desktop downloaders will not install. The workarounds people reach for — Linux apps, Android apps from the Play Store, browser extensions — each add something to install and keep updated, and none of them is needed to save a public post's video.

Where the files go

Chrome saves downloads to My files ▸ Downloads in the Files app, the same as any other download. Open it from the launcher or from Chrome's download list. Double-click a video and ChromeOS's own media app plays it.

Which sites work

Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, Twitch clips, Snapchat Spotlight, Dailymotion, VK, Bilibili, Douyin and Niconico, among others. Public posts only: VoomReel never signs in to any of them.

School and work Chromebooks

A managed Chromebook may block downloads, or block sites by category. That is the administrator's setting, and nothing on a web page can change it; if a download is blocked, Chrome says so in its download list.

Saving just the sound

Under most videos there is a ♪ MP3 button, which saves the sound as an MP3 to the same Downloads folder.

Storage on a Chromebook

Chromebooks often have little local storage. A one-minute clip is a few megabytes, but a long YouTube video can run to hundreds. ChromeOS's storage settings show how much space is left, and moving videos to Google Drive frees it.
