The cover, not the first frame
Every TikTok video carries two pictures. The cover is the one TikTok shows in the feed and on the profile grid, chosen when the video was posted. The other is simply the video's first frame.

It depends on the video, because TikTok keeps each cover at the size it was made. Across 11 NASA videos the cover was 1080 × 1920 on four, 1048 × 1518 on five, 894 × 1590 on one and 720 × 1280 on one. The first frame was 540 × 960 on all eleven, whatever the video's own resolution.
